Spinal Stenosis

Pain Conditions

Causes

Spinal stenosis is a group of conditions which is characterized by narrowing of the spinal canal at the location of the spinal cord.

Several conditions contribute to spinal stenosis. The most common include an overgrowth of the facet joints, a bulging disc, arthritis and a herniated disc. Direct causes include a vertebrae fracture.

Symptoms

Patients may suffer from chronic low back pain which could radiate to legs and thighs. You may also experience numbness or tingling in the legs. You may be limited in activity due to pain.

Treatment

Spinal stenosis can be treated with a combination of physical therapy, epidural steroid injections or other cortisone injections which may provide pain relief. If symptoms do not respond, patients may need surgery.
