Pain Conditions

Causes

Myofascial pain syndrome is a chronic condition causing pain in the musculoskeletal system. The pain is usually located in a specific area; for example, you may have pain in your right shoulder or neck area with pain that is associated with trigger points in muscles.

This condition is continuous regional pain due to trauma and injury that is not considered normal. In severe cases, a simple touch can cause significant pain.

Symptoms

Symptoms include swelling, changes in skin blood flow and temperature in the body part. Abnormal excessive sweating as changing in growth patterns for hair and nails may also occur.

Treatment

Intensive physical therapy earlier in the course of the problem helps. Also, interventional procedures such as stellate ganglion blocks, lumbar sympathetic blocks, spinal cord stimulation are performed by an interventional pain physician.
